What a week in girls cross-country!

New rankings from Anonymous!

Please remember, this is just for fun and to create interest. Anonymous is NOT COACH AL!

In the OIA, whose #1 now?

Kristin Ali Keith showed who’s #1 in Hawaii by defeating Sara Clapp, our former #1 in the girls ranking at the Campbell Invitational. Keith's time of 19:17 was good for 2nd place to winner Alex Dunne from San Clemente, California who won in 17:38!! Wow!

In the MIL, Seabury Hall rolls at Lahainaluna Invitational

Grossman and Lundblad go 1 and 2

Kapalua - Seabury Hall junior Hailey Grossman won her second race in a row on the hilly Kapalua golf course, the site of last year's state meet. Her time of 19:58:9 was the fastest time of the day, followed closely by teammate Lea Lundblad in 20:03. The Seabury Hall girls cross country team put all five of their top runners in the top ten and won their 3rd meet in a row.

In the ILH, Welcome back Julie!

In the varsity girls division at Waipio, Julie Besenbruch won in a time of 19:32. Julie ran smoothly and looked very strong after her time off last year. She's definitely back and should be put into the top 10 somewhere.” The above a quote from Al Linsky.

I noticed Haley Abing was added to last weeks Top 10, displacing Nicole Painter from the original. Abing does deserve to be on the list as she was 2nd in States last year.
This weeks list looks OK, but Sara Clapp may have just had a bad race, the same as Kristin Ali Keith had the previous week. Clapp ran a 19:11 on a similar flat course the week before.
The return of Julie Besenbruch will make for an exciting State Championship competition with 5 State distance champions in the field from the past 3 years of both Track and Cross Country, which includes Bailey Massenburg, Hailey Grossman and Sara Clapp.

Just wondering how in the team ranking Mililani dropeed from #2 to #4 after last weekends results. They dominated all the O.I.A. schools at the Campbell Invitational, including #5 Leilehua. I guess we'll have to wait for the Iolani meet to get a better picture. Of course that depends on who the teams run in the varsity race. In the past some teams don't run their top girls early in the season as if they don't want to show their strength or weakness before the championship meets.

I think Mililani will have to prove themselves head to head against ILH competition at the Iolani Invitational to legitimately earn that #2 Ranking from the previous week. The 3 teams ahead of them were also the Top 3 at States last year, and showed this week that they stil have the personnel who can achieve the same standing at the State meet.
